To reject the null hypothesis (H₀) means that the evidence from the data is strong enough to conclude that H₀ is unlikely to be true, supporting the alternative hypothesis (Hₐ). To fail to reject the null hypothesis means that there is not enough evidence to conclude that H₀ is false, but it does not necessarily prove that H₀ is true.
