If the level of significance (α) is chosen incorrectly, how could it affect the outcome of a hypothesis test?

The level of significance controls how extreme the data must be to. Choosing it incorrectly can increase the probability of drawing wrong conclusions, either by rejecting a true null (Type I error) or failing to reject a false null (Type II error).
