What does the significance level (α) represent in hypothesis testing?
The significance level (α) represents the probability of making a Type I error in hypothesis testing, which means rejecting the null hypothesis when it is actually true. It sets the threshold for how much risk of error we are willing to accept. For example, if α = 0.05, it means we are allowing a 5% chance of wrongly rejecting a true null hypothesis.
