In the NBA, measures of location and dispersion help explain how players perform. Measures of location, like the mean, median, and mode, show a player’s usual level in different aspect, such as how many points he scores on average or where player score happens most often, it can be in shaded area or beyond the arc. Percentiles can also rank players compared to others in the league like how espn use to compare who is the best player. Meanwhile, measures of dispersion show consistency. The range looks at the highest and lowest scores in between regular and play off game, and the standard deviation tells if a player is steady like Nikola Jokić or streaky like some shooters. Simply put, location shows how good a player is, while dispersion shows how reliable he is, and both are useful for coaches, teams, sponsors, researchers and fans in judging performance.
